HIV; PMTCT: Mbereko Community Mobilisers in Chitungwiza; HIV In Chitungwiza, a high-density neighborhood near Harare, Zimbabwe, actors Alice Masere and Henry Matay role-play a couple confronting the fact that she has tested positive in an pre-natal HIV test. The play, put on by an NGO called the Zimbabwe AIDS Prevention Project or ZAPP holds the crowd riveted, and interweaves messages about prevention, adherence to treatment and PMTCT into a soap-opera style street drama. The ZAPP team of ten moves from one neighborhood to the next with awareness-raising performances, and each one is followed by a quiz to test the audience’s knowledge about HIV and related subjects. Though the percentage of Zimbabweans living with HIV is still high, at 15%, the country has made huge progress to reduce new infections since the late 90’s, when prevalence was as high as 29%.
