Spray operators hunt for mosquito larvae in an abandoned fish pond outside a village in the Indonesian island of Sumatra as part of a malaria control campaign. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant waterbodies, raising the risk of spreading the disease. Indonesia has made great progress in the fight against malaria, thanks to a series of interventions including fumigation, improvements in reporting and surveillance in sparsely populated and remote areas with high transmission, and the distribution of mosquito nets.
