A patient living with HIV in Mumbai is visited by a community health activist who uses the eMpower technology. The tablet-based application, developed by IBM Global Fund and the India HIV/AIDS Alliance, eliminates the piles of paperwork generated from monitoring more than a million people in HIV treatment and prevention programs in India. Among the vulnerable communities that have benefitted from this application are India’s transgender and intersex people, known as the hijras, or “third sex."
