PHOTO OF THE WEEK (26 FEBRUARY 2015) - In La Union, El Salvador, community health promoter Leonel Oswaldo makes a home visit to a severely ill woman, who may be suffering from tuberculosis. He’ll collect a sputum sample and deliver it to the nearest laboratory for diagnostic testing. If the woman is found to have TB, the six-month course of treatment will be provided for free, and Leonel will work together with local community leaders to ensure that she takes her full course of medication. Here, health promoters like Leonel are making it possible to find, diagnose and treat patients who might otherwise have no access to TB care. Their salaries and means of transport are paid for with the support from the Global Fund and its partners.
