Santa Ana: We join Manola to two “bars” in a street where sex workers operate for two one-on-one follow-up meetings with transgenders. She keeps a keeps journal with personal details such as phone number and where they live/work, which is not shared with anyone else to protect their identity. She picks up on topics discussed earlier, including condom use, and some of the issues they are facing. Questionnaires are used by peer educators to assess current stage of behaviour and then monitor progress over time on a score card. Promotional items are given as an incentive. Initially, the clients don’t talk easily, but as soon as a relationship of trust develops, they start to open up.
