Education and Protection for Rubber Farmers in Myanmar
PHOTO FROM THE FIELD (23 JUNE 2016) - Farmer Daw Mya Aye has come to the local health post in Kawthaung village to be tested for malaria. Familiar symptoms cause her to suspect she has been infected with the disease while collecting rubber in the forest. Rubber farmers usually operate during nighttime and early morning hours, when mosquitoes that carry the malaria parasite are most active. Because of the high risk they face, these farmers are specifically targeted with malaria education and preventative tools such as mosquito repellent and insecticide-treated mosquito nets.
