Young children and pregnant women are most vulnerable to the untoward effects of malaria. But the simple act of sleeping under an insecticide treated net is one of the most effective ways to protect against malaria. The Global Fund has invested heavily in Myanmar and other countries of the Mekong region to prevent and treat malaria, and combat drug resistance. These investments have changed the course of the disease. In Myanmar, the number of malaria deaths declined steadily year by year from 1,707 in 2005 to just 14 in 2018.
