Through an IGA program from another ngo, plus a bit of table banking, the group of 12 CHVs bought a large tent and 50 chairs that they rent out for events (parties, weddings). They also bought one goat for each CHV, and even accessories for their community health work, like plastic gloves, work clothes. Right nw they have 70,000 shillings (70 USD) in their account.
The Global Fund supports the RDTs, ACT medicine, and training of the CHVs
After lunch the team joins on two home visits by CHVs.
The second home visit is (…) of a woman who is a trader at the market. She has cows too. Her children have been affected by malaria frequently. Her two children are both dressed in an orange-striped shirt.
Evaline Odiwuor, 26 : A mother of five. She has invited community health volunteers to her home to come check on her two boys, whom she suspects have malaria. She is a small-scale business owner, who sells vegetables in the market. Her business is constantly interrupted by her kids suffering from bouts of malaria. Often they get admitted in hospital to be with her sick kids.
The two boys she wants tested for malaria are Zakaria Ochieng – 6. And Brorence Omondi, 4. Zakaria tests positive for malaria and is treated. Two weeks ago, he had another bout. Brorence is okay for now.
