Malaria Treatment in the Hands of Communities
In Siaya county in western Kenya, Belinda Achieng has her child examined by community health volunteers working with International Research Development Organization and Amref Health Africa, which receive support from the Global Fund. A rapid diagnostic test revealed that 5-year-old Denzel Okoth –who was running high fever – has malaria. The health volunteers will promptly start him on malaria treatment, putting him on the way to recovery. Malaria is especially deadly for children under five and pregnant women.
