In Trujillo prison, Honduras, Elder (yellow shirt) acts as a Volunteer Collaborator, following-up with a fellow inmate who is a former tuberculosis patient. Trained with Global Fund support, Elder works with the prison authorities and the local clinic to raise TB awareness among inmates, to help identify potential cases and to make sure that patients adhere to treatment. “I saw the need”, he says. “My fellow inmates were suffering”. In addition to training, Global support allows for clinic staff to visit the prison regularly and for effective treatment to be provided free of charge.
