PHOTO OF THE WEEK (18 JUNE 2015) - In Nueva Armenia, Honduras, TB community worker Juana visits former midwife Calexta in her home, to refresh her knowledge of tuberculosis symptoms and prevention. As Calexta is considered an authority in her community on childbirth and her daughter has also become a midwife in the community, Juana’s strategy is to enlist Calexta’s help to raise TB awareness among other aspiring midwives. In particular, midwives have a role to play in instructing parents and other family members about how to minimize the risk of transmitting TB to a baby, in case they are carriers of the tuberculosis bacteria. Juana received training to become a TB community health worker with support from the Global Fund.
