The Zaatari camp in the Jordanian desert houses 79,000 refugees who have fled the conflict in neighbouring Syria. What started as a temporary shelter has grown into a bustling city with stores, mosques, health care centres, schools, falafel stands, bicycle repair businesses and even bridal shops.

Under a special initiative, the Global Fund is supporting the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis among Syrian refugees in the Zaatari and other refugee camps.
