Women in the Rangamati district of southeastern Bangladesh are learning about malaria prevention from their community health worker. This region is one of several malaria “hot zones” in the country. Bangladesh, with the support of the Global Fund, adopted a community-based approach, deploying thousands of community health workers who raise awareness about malaria and other diseases as well as provide diagnosis and treatment. Since the program began, there have been significant improvements in both maternal and child mortality rates.
