Rehena Begum grew up in the slums of Tigerpass Railway, Chittagong, Bangladesh??s second most populous city. She now works as a health volunteer, covering 220 households and earning money by diagnosing TB cases and administering medicines.
Tigerpass Railway is home to many of the country??s booming textile industries. Before the factories lured tens of thousands of poor villagers to settle in the rapidly-growing port city, the area was a preferred trail for the wandering Bengal tiger. Today, this area, where families live with poor access to basic services and poor sanitation, is a ???hot spot?? for TB, with high transmission rates.
