Senegal Looks for Solutions to Share Information About HIV Despite Stigma
Social worker Mariéme Ly Kane staffs the phone at CTA INFO SIDA, a national call-in center set up at the CTA Fann Hospital in Dakar, to provide information about HIV to callers . She receives between 50 and 60 calls a day from all over Senegal, she says. Most are from teenagers and young adults who want to know more about HIV prevention or treatment, without the potential stigma of being seen going to the hospital. Callers have the option to remain anonymous, and can receive guidance about HIV, sexual health and infectious diseases more generally.
