Mobilizing Volunteers to fight TB in Cambodia Village health volunteer Lach Sam (right) visits tuberculosis patient Din Kolab at her home in Siem Reap province, Cambodia. An earlier sputum test turned out negative, but Lach Sam’s experience with recognizing TB symptoms made her convince Din Kolad to get re-tested. The new test confirmed she indeed has tuberculosis and Lach Sam has been supervising her treatment ever since. With Global Fund support, village health volunteers like Lach Sam are trained to seek out potential new TB cases, provide treatment and information, and report to nearby hospitals about health problems that exist in their communities. TB refresher session at the Samrong Health Center for all 18 health volunteers in the commune. (everybody turned up, including Lach Sam). These take place every 3-6 months, depending on budget available. The takes tests as well. the group of 18 is called VHSG or "Village Health Support Group".
