PHOTO OF THE WEEK (19 FEBRUARY 2015) - Mercedes, a veteran community health worker, tests a local resident for malaria. One of 121 such volunteers in Tocoa, Honduras, Mercedes provides malaria health services to the community free of charge from her home. She has seen a significant drop in the number of malaria cases over the years, and believes that one of the main reasons is increased awareness among the villagers. The training of malaria community workers, materials needed for testing and malaria education through schools are all made possible with the support from the Global Fund and its partners.
