Dieynaba Sow provides home-based care in his village near Kayar, in Senegal. Home-based caregivers provide basic healthcare services, including malaria treatment for patients living in areas where there are no healthcare facilities. Every day, Dieynaba checks on each of her patients, administers rapid diagnostic tests and prescribes the appropriate treatment. Early case management provided by home-based caregivers has played a major role in reducing by half the number of malaria cases in Kayar, which are becoming increasingly rare. “I don’t get paid for my work, but it is quite gratifying. I am happy to see that malaria is being eradicated in my village”.
