Cedric Irakiza is a 14-year-old orphan who arrived in Esther’s village about a year ago to live with a foster family. Esther, a community health worker, supports all people in the village and monitors new arrivals, as she strives to see that everyone under her care remains healthy.

When Esther heard that Cedric had a persistent cough, she chaperoned his visit to the to the health center for a checkup. At the health center, he was screened for TB and took an HIV test.
