Tsetsegmaa, a retired nurse, walks 10 km every day to deliver tubercluosis medicines to patients in their homes, which can be yurts like this one, in Khan-Uul District, on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. She volunteers for the Global Fund-supported Mongolian Anti-Tuberculosis Association, whose approach of visiting patients in their homes dramatically increases the probability of successful treatment. The nearly 200 Mongolian Anti-Tuberculosis Association home-visit volunteers work in the eight high tuberculosis burden provinces and the capital city in Mongolia. In addition to delivering and tracking medicines, they complete early screening questionnaires with those who come into contact with patients, including family members and neighbors. They also transport sputum samples to testing sites.
